I’m a huge fan of Rolf Dobelli. He’s very down to earth and explains things in a straightforward way. I like the way the book is structured with short and compact chapters. This is a book I should come back to.

#Things to consider

  • Part of the good life is provisioning for the future.
  • Be mindful of the approval-seeking machine of social media.
  • Brains stores information in stories, compared to computers who stores information in bits. Constructing stories is the primary task of your remembering self.
  • It’s best to switch between meaningfulness and enjoyment. Don’t focus too heavily on one or the other.
  • Not believe too much in your own self-importance is one of the most valuable strategies for a good life.
  • Only work with people you like and trust. It’s so useful dealing with people you can trust.
  • As long as you keep the downside at bay the upside will take care of itself. A calling is nothing but a job you like to have.
  • Accept reality. Don’t wait for the consequences to unfold. Deal with reality, especially the bits you don’t like.

#You don’t always need to have an opinion

Calm your mind by not always having an opinion. Invest in an intellectual toolkit that emotionally prepare you for loss. Wisdom is prevention.

#90% is junk

Remember that 90% of all products are junk, 90% of all meetings are waste, 90% of all email is meaningless. This is Sturgeon’s law. 90% of everything is bullshit. The world is full of empty words but you don’t need to listen. Precious few things are valuable.
