#Things to consider

  • All opportunities come from people. So stay in touch. Keep a database to keep getting in touch with people regularly.
  • Be extremely niched and defined. Proudly exclude most people.
  • Marketing is not advertising, announcing or spamming. Marketing just means being considerate. Marketing means listening for what people need, and making something tailored for them. Something that positively surprise them.
  • Before interacting with people ask yourself: “What do they really want?”
  • Write every post or email as if it was from you directly to your best friend.
  • Edit your emails down to a few sentences. Assume you’ve only got ten seconds. Considerate communication is surprisingly rare.
  • Get presents for the people you’ve met that are probably under-appreciated.
  • Do what the others are not doing. Like Warren Buffet’s: “Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful.”

#Reading log

2021-03-07: It’s a book aimed at musicians but I find the advice can be applied to any creative field. It’s much about that there are no rules. Marketing is an art in itself and you don’t have to go with standard formats. Make marketing an extension of your art. Get comfortable talking about money and make your offering valuable.
