#Reading log

2024-09-20: The Civil War feels so close when you read the book, so real somehow. You get to read a couple of letters between Ana and her husband, then you follow Mary as she navigates the White House in her peculiar way. What struck me is how quickly the whole thing unfolded. Nobody thought it would turn out that way, and yet it did.

2024-09-17: This book told the Lincoln story from the viewpoint of a couple of different people, but the main character is the one of Ana Ferreira. She’s the daughter of Portuguese immigrants in Springfield during the mid 1850’s. The story spreads over a couple of years and you follow Ana as she grows up and becomes part of the Lincoln household. It’s also told from the perspective from Mary, Lincoln’s wife.
